Did you lose weight by breastfeeding your baby?

  • I put 4 stone on during my pregnancy going up to 12.5 stone but from the back I didn't look preggers at all. My LO is 5 months old tomorrow and I've got about half a stone to go. As other posters have said you tend to eat a lot more and I seem to have acquired a terrible sweet tooth! I didn't feel that my stomach went down especially quickly though but I wonder if having to have an emergency c-section had something to do with it?? LO was about 2 weeks old and the girl on the till in the supermarket asked when I was due! I wouldn't have minded so much but I had the baby with me :-)

The weight fell off me when I was breast feeding, I ended up slimmer than I was before I got pregnant. Sadly my appetite didn't decrease when I stopped so I piled it back on again afterwards!

DS (1st) - no, didn't help me lose weight, actually put it on. BF for 1 year precisely.
DD(2nd 22 months later) - yes, I lost weight - was in jeans I hadn't been able to wear for 10 years 7 days after the birth. BF for 1 year precisely. Think the weight loss was more to do with having an active toddler than a BF baby if I'm honest.

  • I lost the lot and only BF for 3 weeks. Bubs was a hungry baby and I was literally BF'ing every half an hour. Probably too exhausted to eat to be honest! That first night of formula feeding when she slept for 6 hours was bliss! :D

I had about half a stone left that I carried with me until just before I got pg. I'm now adding the weight quite rapidly and not worrying too much. I eat healthily. The weight is all very frontal but as soon as i'm able to after birth i'll be looking to get into shape asap. Lots of pram walking in order me thinks!

  • Yes, I lost weight with both of mine, but with the second I lost too much. I ended up weighing about a stone less than I did before I was pregnant.
:o Trying to become debt free but this site makes me spend a fortune!!! :o
  • I did with 1st baby, but I'm not sure if that was breastfeeding or lots of long walks with the buggy to get her to sleep (one of those babies that would only sleep when moving!)

Breastfed baby2 but didn't lose as much weight; but wasn't walking as much, or as briskly as had baby1 toddling alongside!

Breastfeeding made me very hungry too.

Hi, like a lot of others, I've still got about 1/2 a stone left to get back to my pre-baby weight. Yeah, it would be great if it was gone, but I'm not doing anything drastic to lose it - love me grub far too much for that :D

  • I BF for 7 months, I was so hungry I gained weight, only lost weight once I stopped BF.
  • I BF both mine for a year each. I was back in skinny jeans within a week of birth each time.
  • Breastfeeding burns about 500 calories a day
