Do I need a better wireless router?

first off, change your wifi channel to 3 to start with.
Even a low-strength signal on the same channel WILL interfere with your network. I have similar issues on occasion with mini-Gun #1's lappy/xbox - he's on the top floor of our 3-storey house. Running inssider on ground floor only picks up mine and next door's networks. Run it on his lappy upstairs and you'll pick up many more networks (anywhere up to 15 I think was the most at once  ) so you need to do this.
Take the wireless lappy around the house while running inssider and that will help you map out the other networks interfering with yours, and give you the best chance to pick the least congested channel for yours. Do this at peak times (i.e. mid-evening) when most people will be using their routers, as it'll save you having to keep repeating the process so often.
If you can pick an uncongested channel, that's the first port of call. This may help, it shows the wifi channel overlaps.....

If it doesn't, maybe your router is on the way out..
Also, do as I'm in the process of doing (having to resort to this as these days too many other networks locally) , and get a wifi repeater (£25 delivered from ebuyer for an Edimax one) to ensure you have max strength coverage in your house (and s0d the interference you may generate for your neighbours, who are likely causing your current issues anyway)

OK here are the IP addresses etc. I googled how to find the xbox one and it looks pretty different to the others and some of the things don't seem to apply. Also the IP on the older PC doesn't say IPv4 but I'm guessing that's not a problem. Anyway, here's the stuff:
Desktop PC (Win XP)
IP address 192.168.1.5
Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0
Default gateway 192.168.1.1
Laptop (Win Vista)
IPv4 address 192.168.1.3 (Preferred)
Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0
Default gateway 192.168.1.1
Netbook (Win 7)
IPv4 address 192.168.1.2 (Preferred)
Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0
Default gateway 192.168.1.1
XBox360
IP address 86.30.144.119:3074
Dashboard 2.0.12611.0
You'll note that the three computers are running three different versions of Windows, but I don't suppose that's a problem either.
Now I'm off to google how to change to channel 3. You make it sound as easy as flipping a switch, but we'll see.:p I'm learning here, but I'm well outside my comfort zone!
I'll take a look at some of the other points mentioned but probably not for a day or two as I'm pretty busy with work stuff just now.
I really appreciate your help. Thank you.0 -
changing the channel your router operates on is usually just like flipping a switch - you need to log into the router and find the wlan/wifi/wireless setup page, and fix the channel. Most routers have a tick-box or similar to auto-allocate a channel - you want to use a fixed channel you specify(drop-down or similar), and click to save/apply the settings. The router may need to reboot to aply the change (some do some don't) and then re-establish the wifi connection with your lappys/xbox/whatever
p.s. the IP addy of your xbox looks wrong.....if connected to YOUR router it should follow the 192.168.1.xx format...sure it's not connected to a neighbor's unsecured router ?!?!?!?......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......

sorry i haven't been back here. My teenage son has been hospitalised with newly diagnosed type 1 diabetes, so the internet can wait for a while. He's OK, but my priorities are elsewhere for now. Thanks for help so far I do appreciate it.0
