  • I don't know, I'd never buy a car with one though as the mechanical brake is a failsafe and has saved me before when my brakes failed.
  • Then you have to stop the bloody insurers doing a deal to protect themselves at your expense. Is it subrogation where they agree to pay for their own insured's losses but not claim on the other to save paperwork and screw up your NCB.

    in any case, isn't your high NCB protected ? Damn sure mine would be.
  • Burn through the handbrake cable? Have you tried burning through a steel cable shrouded in a heat resistant sleeve?

    I have seen old cars burnt out in the engine bay, Carb melted but the throttle cable is still there. Handbrake cable
    would need more heat than that.

    I saw this happen once (on the TV) - I think its the ratchet mechanism that fails - not the cable.
