Kitchen fitting and bidding for job websites

I have a new Wickes kitchen that needs fitting.

Old units have been removed but new units need assembling (or is it worth having a go myself to save some money)

4 base units and 3 wall units plus 2 worktops (properly jointed) so not a huge job. Also existing sink needs refitting.

Some chipboard flooring panels need replacing due to water leak, think about 2 panels.

How much would be a reasonable amount?

I was thinking about 2 days work at about £150 per day, is that reasonable?

I was also thinking of putting the job on Rated Builder or MyHammer to see what bids I get for the work, are these worth considering or are there better websites?

House is in Sheffield.

thanks

There is probably a day in sorting out the floor and building the units. Allow 2 days for installation and worktops. Plus consumables - screws, silicon, worktop bolts etc. Plus plumbing etc.

You are better off getting local recommendations. How can any one bid on a job if they have never seen it? What you see as a job oisn't how a tradesman will see it. there may be pipoework to box round, plumbing to alter etc. So at best they will give you a guesstimate.

  • Hi,

If you use a site such as rated-people or myhammer you will likely gt a higher quote - why?

These sites charge the tradesmen a fee for either accepting the lead or actually getting awarded the job.

Most tradesmen ( I am one ) will incorporate these fees in their charges, they have to, otherwise it's not worth the tradesmen using these sites.

Best to get someone local, at least 3 quotes, recommendation if possible.

    Hope this helps,
    Steve :)

It would make so much easier to asses each case.

I think you should call local tradesmen to quote you.
They will also probably know better how long it takes to fit it.

these bidding sites look a bit of a joke,
how can a tradesman give an estimate without viewing a job first hand.

Also, you won't have a clue about the competence of these people.

You really need to get someone through recommendations and who is happy to show you examples of work.

If you think you can get it done for £300 you are likely to be upset!

Remember: an expensive kitchen can look atrocious if it is installed by an idiot while a cheap kitchen can look a million dollars if installed by an experienced and competent fitter. Its not worth trying to do it on the cheap as you will live to regret it.

far better to use family, friends or neighbours to give you a recommendation.
those builders/trades type websites are only slightly better than using the yellow pages and a pin.
    Get some gorm.
