Playstation 3 Wired Microphones

I've tried googling this problem but cannot find anything, was wondering if anyone here would be able to help.
We bought two wired Microphones that are SingStar compatible and have been using them together to play as a band on Guitar Hero and never had a problem.
Bought SingStar recently, but only one microphone works at a time, meaning we are unable to play together. There is nothing on the instructions that says we wouldn't be able to play together (I am aware you can't play together if one is wired and one is wireless)
The microphones both link up to separate USB ports and then connect to a convertor box (we've tried all the settings on the box to get it to work)
Just wondered if anyone had any ideas?
