TK Components Kitchens Manchester

Hi Has anyone heard of TKC Kitchens based in Denton, Manchester?

We are in the process of an getting quotes for an extension and new kitchen. Some builders have been suggesting we use Howdens, but had one builder come round saying he buys his kitchens from TKC and they are the main manufacturer in the UK supplying a lot of High st stores. Not sure what to make of that as haven't been able to find much out about them online. Am going to visit their showroom to see what the quality is like but wondered if anyone had any more experience of them.

There's nothing about them on the web that I can find either. Their web site says they have been going for 20 years, but must be local only or I am sure I would have heard about them.

I would visit them and Howdens and see how they compare on quality and price. Howdens units come made up so you save workman time and money by not having to make them up. Also because they carry large stocks if you need an extra handle, unit, whatever, you can just go get them off the shelf.

It may come down to whether your fitter passes on all the discount he gets. Howens are trade only so you will have to go through him to get a price.

Thanks, one of the reasons I asked is that the builder said they are one of 2 major kitchen manufacturers in the UK, supplying lots of Kitchen retailers, so thought if that is true they must be very well known.

If that were the case, you would think it would be recorded somewhere on the net. The only way to decide I think is to look at both products and compare the quality.
  • The builder who uses TKC took away a copy of the quote and kitchen design that B+Q did from the cooke and lewis range. The TKC price certainly looks cheap, around £2500 for units, counters, handles and taps. B+Q. The B+Q quote was just under £6000 for the same. This is for a galley kitchen with a run of 3m on each side.

I certainly wouldn't go ahead without seeing the quality first, TKC have a showroom so going to try and have a look this week.

Howdens advertise with great big full-page ads in consumer magazines and on TV, whereas I don't recall seeing any ads for TK Components. That doesn't necessarily mean anything, though - after all, the most logical place for trade suppliers to advertise is in trade magazines! Just as a note, if you type "tk components" into google (with the quotation marks to separate out any rubbish) you get 101,000 results. Do the same for "howdens" and you get 120,000 results - so it seems they're both pretty well written about.

Anyway, the real question is what's the quality like and how much will it cost? Trumpton is right – see if you can visit TK's showroom or examples of TK's kitchens in people's homes, and then compare those to what you'd get from Howdens. And, of course, make sure you choose a tradesman that (a) you trust and (b) has experience with the company!
dont think they do advertise on tv being trade only. dont think your fitter knows what he is on about really howdens biggest, magnet/nobia 2nd as they supply homebase as well, bernstiens 3rd (b and q), 4th is probably sheritans who supply wickes, travis perkins. worked for numerous kitchen companies never heard of TK components

  • Went to visit TKC yesterday, they have a very good showroom considering being trade only and what I have heard about the Howdens 'showrooms'. Quality seemed ok although I do find it a bit difficult to tell when your in the showroom. Asked about the units and they are all 18mm although they supply them flat packed so maybe not as good as the pre built units.

I was just wandering actually the reason behind not buying the unit from TKC? Is it down to quality or just because they don't have a big enough range of colours? Don't suppose you know how their quality compares to DIY Kitchens?
  • I've been everywhere, Moben, Wickes, B&Q and have settled on TKC, quality visually seems to be on par with anything I've seen. My trusted fitter swears by them which really sold it for me.
  • Interesting. I hadn't been able to find out much online about TKC, but one thing I noticed is that out of the few forum comments I found from trades people, they all said they buy doors from TKC and units elsewhere. I guess you can make up your own mind if that means anything or not. Think the wall units are only 14mm.
