Red keys applied to MK2 mondeo's MK3's use a blue chip.

You do need 2 unique keys to program new keys in and old keys out though. Normally you get one remote
key and one standard key, Both have a chip inside them.

If you bought it with one key get another ASAP. Ford charge about £160+ to supply 2 keys coded to your car.

Getting a key cloned costs about £40, That wont allow you to program new keys but at least you have 2 that will start
    the car.

You can program a new remote to a Ford Mondeo with just one key/remote yourself, which is complete free.

Program a remote is easy and takes a few seconds, But to program the PATs immobiliser chip you need 2 unique
    working keys.

Ther remote doesnt need cloning, You can have upto 4 remote keys. If the car only came supplied with one key
someone out there will have the other/others. You cant block them unless you have 2 unique keys.
