British Gas EnergySmart?
Options
I am aware of the price hikes but feel it's usually swings and roundabouts, you change suppliers, are likely to have teething problems = hassles, then they bump the prices up too so you feel you may as well have stuck to your original supplier.:(
We are with British Gas for both Gas & Electric and they have brought out EnergySmart whereby you submit a monthly meter reading. Does anyone have any experience of this? What are your thoughts? Could it save us money?:o

You submit your readings every month and a few days later you get a bill which you get online they then take payment from your bank account via direct debt. The energy smart isnt a tariff as such its connected to a tariff in my case a social tariff
On 13th month you get £30 per fuel off any debt as far as I am aware
You also get a energy smart meter and I believe a electric adaptor0 -
I'm on Click 6 with energysmart for electricity, it makes sense as my electricity consumption is fairly flat over the year, and I'm not building up a credit/debit on the account.
It makes no sense to me to have it for gas however, as there would be a much higher series of bills over the winter, i have a normal fixed dd for that and keep an eye on my balances.
When i took it out you just got a not very accurate mains energy monitor. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
I have had three of those meters and not one of them worked it just wouldnt sync tried it on MIL and BIL tried it at home and they couldnt get it to work either
Mean while Owl I got free from BG in DM offer 2 years go works fine and syncs perfectly0 -
How do you get 'teething problems' with a gas or electricity supplier?
There's no physical change to the supply. The only difference is in the billing and account management, which admittedly some seem to manage better than others. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
EnergySmart is a fantastic little tool, you're automatically making savings on your bills by being eligible for the onlinesaver3 tariff (4% below standard) and with the access to your account given to you online (graphs, consumption etc) and the free electricity monitor (you should be getting a limited edition colour one for joining now, i got the black and white one =[! haha, still awesome though) you make behavioural savings too so it's all good. Also having the more regular acurate bills will help you keep on top of it a bit better and should keep your monthly payments at a pretty balanced level. Also with this kind of management you may be confident in having a variable direct debit where they take the bill ammount in full 10 days from the bill being issued to you.
On top of this launching soon for energysmart customers are 2 new tools, the ability to compare consumption and such with other people in different areas, differents part of the country and such. Also coming in the next couple of weeks is going to be the ability to manage your direct debits online which is bound to be invaluble to many BG customers as it's ofcourse a big ongoing concern for a lot of customers what theyre paying / what it's being changed to and the full reasons behind why (the page will show you what the effects of changing your monthly payments will have on the payment scheme and what you're going to likely owe at the end of it and such)0
