Giving up the car?

Hi,

Iam in a bit of a predicament at the moment and don't really know what to do for the best?

I've got a cheap little 1997 Ford Fiesta which runs well, low mileage, very reliable etc.
However, Iam currently on long term sick having treatment for anxiety/depression issues and can just about run my car but with alot of cutting back/frugal living.
I do hope to be back to work sometime in the new year so having a car will no doubt give me more options when it comes to job hunting.
The trouble I have is that while I need the car for job hunting I will also need money for the first month to live on when I do go back to work, so the only way to do this would be to sell the car and use the proceeds from that.
I have untill the 17th December to make my mind up as my insurance is due then which will have to be paid for by instalments this year as it's gone up quite a bit.

Anybody offer constructive advice please?:)

You don't say what public transport options are available in your area. Cars can be incredibly expensive to run, even ones which have done most of their depreciation like yours. I persuaded my mother to put her car running costs into a 'virtual' piggy bank, and use it to pay for public transport and taxis. So far, she's £1000 up on the deal.

Iam on a mainline rail station close to Bath/Bristol and the bus network is pretty good. I also enjoy cycling so that is also an option, so I won't be isolated as such.

It's just a wrench to get rid of it as it's so convenient but I also have to look at the bigger picture that if the clutch went or something then I wouldn't be able to afford it.

I've kind of answered my own question a bit!:(
