Onlive-free gaming experience-no high spec PC required

Options
This new gaming site allows you to trial games for 30 mins,in the hope you may buy it.Although I'm no gamer myself,my son told me about the site and said it would be great for him to see if he liked any game enough to actually buy it....(so free trials and money saving) !
He also mentioned you do not require a " gaming spec " PC to use this ???? I do not know much about that !

Ignore the console add-on you can buy-this is if you want to use your tv for it....otherwise just use your pc.

Have a good look around the site, you can also watch loads of people in live play, great graphics by the way !

There is no gain for me at all by posting this link, which I cant as I'm a new user,so go to Onlive-dot-com via google.

A few things you should be aware of:

    - You need to be close to your exchange for it to work reasonably well.

    - The picture quality is lower than the same game would be on your PC.

    - Certain games simply don't work well. Think about it: you press a button, data is sent over the Internet, their servers render a picture, they compress it, send it back to you, decompress it and display it. Action games simply don't work with it due to lag.

    - It uses a massive amount of bandwidth, about 2 to 3 gigabytes per hour.

Seems to me you have not tried it....? If you had you'll see the speeds, quality are superb....(and we are at the end of our exchange ! )

It's a shame that all I'm doing is telling people about a site where they can try games out for free, this could be a lifeline in the current financial situation for some people at Christmas.

If you were paying for it,then I see your point-and that's if what you say does happen to players ? For what I've seen,it is superb.

The reviews you posted, the first one is dated January 2010....Let me tell you that a year is a long time in Tech terms...

The laws of physics, its pricing model - which has changed at least once in the last few months in the US, the inferior picture quality, the bandwidth terrorism...well, it has its uses as a demo service, but fundamentally it's junk.

If you want to play games get a Windows PC or a console. OnLive is third-rate, at best.

If you've not got at least 5MBit THROUGHPUT, not just connect speed, then you can't use it. Also using a constant 5MBit speed, you'll wolf through 10GB in under a day.
