If there's not such a rush to get one, you could look at the Dell Inspiron 570. Currently showing at £429 on their website without any of the extras they try to push. That's without a monitor too, but do make sure the one you have is compatible with the graphics card they use. I would avoid the Inspiron 560 at £329 myself, looks a bit low powered and may not have a long useful life because of that. I'm on my second Dell, having passed the first on to the OH. They offer a 1 year collect and return warranty. Haven't had to use it, but it sounds reasonable.

I have had a Packard Bell imedia since 2002 and haven't had any real problems with it. I have just replaced it last week as it's storage and performance were getting too slow for a growing family.
I did consider another Packard Bell but instead went to DinoPC for a cheaper, similar specification machine. I did have to wait for almost 3 weeks but I was not in the same hurry as you are.0 -
Thanks for the responses everyone - I know there are problems with PC World, but again, I presumed that problems with computers now go through the manufacturer, rather than the store. I just wanted general ideas on the computer itself rather than mocking me for suggesting PC World though. Anyway, I'll opt for something else and order online instead, they'll just have to borrow my laptop in the meantime. Thanks
Wrong, if you buy from PCW then your contract is with them, the retailer-not the manufacturer. If there are problems you have to deal with them-which is when the real problems start. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

If you do need a system urgently, that Packard Bell is a good spec. I personally won't use PC World, but it's a quad core machine, meaning that programs that can take advantage of it will get a massive boost, but you probably won't notice the difference in programs like Office.
Don't forget though, that a big part of PC World's profits come from selling you add-ons, like anti virus packages. You don't need to pay for any extra software as you can get equivalents legally for free online, and they're usually better too0
