Buying a new monitor...

Options
A follow on from my previous post.
I need a new monitor - they don't seem very expensive generally.
Can someone tell me why I would need one with a DVI socket?
This monitor is just for my downstairs PC - it doesn't go anywhere and isn't connected to the TV or anything like that.

Thanks

You don't need a DVI socket, but it helps if you have one, if you have a DVI socket output on your PC.

Since for DVI the entire path from PC internals to monitor internals is digital (no Analogue-Digital or Digital-Analogue conversions) you 'should' get a somewhat better picture with DVI...

You may find it difficult to get a modern monitor without a DVI socket.

Seconded. VGA connection is a dying standard.

I just bought a new monitor, I went for one with VGA and DVI - my current PC only has VGA output, but my last monitor was 8 years old. If the new monitor lasts that long, it'll save me buying anew one for my next PC which will almost inevitably have DVI.

Maybe so, but top end GFX cards still come with DVI to VGA adapterS.
