A follow on from my previous post.
I need a new monitor - they don't seem very expensive generally.
Can someone tell me why I would need one with a DVI socket?
This monitor is just for my downstairs PC - it doesn't go anywhere and isn't connected to the TV or anything like that.
Thanks

You don't need a DVI socket, but it helps if you have one, if you have a DVI socket output on your PC.
Since for DVI the entire path from PC internals to monitor internals is digital (no Analogue-Digital or Digital-Analogue conversions) you 'should' get a somewhat better picture with DVI...
You may find it difficult to get a modern monitor without a DVI socket.0 -
Seconded. VGA connection is a dying standard.0

I just bought a new monitor, I went for one with VGA and DVI - my current PC only has VGA output, but my last monitor was 8 years old. If the new monitor lasts that long, it'll save me buying anew one for my next PC which will almost inevitably have DVI.0
