Mature graduate applicant 2012

Options
Hi

I will retire from a career as a nurse aged 55 in 2012. Pension will be approx £15 per year with savings of approx £30k. My mortgage will be paid off.

I am considering applying to Uni of Wales to undertake a documentary photography degree. How will the changes to fees hit me. I will not be able to afford 9k per year but may have considered the current 3k course fees affordable.

Thank you

Given all the changes that are coming in for 2012, this is going to be a difficult one to answer at the moment.

At present you would be able to take out a loan for the fees where any monies outstanding would be wiped out after 25 years but I don't know whether this will still be the case. The new threshold of £21,000 should mean that wouldn't need to make repayments, even when your state pension kicks in.

The other thing that you might need to look at are the ELQ rules, although I can't at present find out whether a nursing qualification is counted. What's the name of your qualification?
  • Thanks for the reply. I have a RMN ( Registered Mental Nurse ) qualification - the equivalent of SRN but in psychiatry.
