Problem getting mic to work when using Sipgate lite

I'm trying to use my USB headset on Sipgate. I am using the Sipgate X-lite software. Audio works fine. If I use the headset on skype, it works fine, but on Sipgate, I get no sound through the mic. i.e. if I speak to someone, they can't hear me. In Googling for a solution, it appears the problem is likely to be the security settings on my router, but I can't work out what to do to resolve the problem. I'm using a Netgear DG834 v2. I don't use the wireless side of the router; in fact I've disabled it. Just direct ethernet connection.
