Disney, France or USA?

  • Have been to both - including US during october half term, I would wholeheartedly say USA!
I enjoyed the paris one, but it is quite pricey and would rather put that money towards the american one, I would not go for less than 2 weeks though, there is so much to do as well other than disney, 2 weeks is not long enough!
  • We had a week in Florida in May but having been before we knew what we wanted to do and see and we did it all, visiting several parks each and every day so it is do-able in a week.

However it was so much easier as we knew where to go, how to get there and the favourite rides etc in each park.

Flights were £260 each and hotel just off-site was £30 a night. 7 day tickets were £150 I think but 14 day tickets are only about a tenner more. Booked via teletext about a week before we went.

Also did Paris Disney many years ago in October, it was cold and wet and also the French mid term so it was very busy. Can agree with a lot of rude French and Germans who didn't understand the concept of queuing and frequently jumped barriers in an attempt to get to the front of the queue.
  • We've done both and enjoyed both. We went in 2003 to Florida and spent about £3.5k for 2 adults and 2 children.

If your kids like roller coasters head over to Busch Gardens for a day, well worth a trip for the adrenaline junkie hiding inside us all!

As everyone before has said Paris is not a patch on Florida but Florida is very expensive to do what you need to do. It takes a minimum of 2 weeks to do most things, but even then you wont be able to cover everything as it is just too much. This is good though as it gives you a reason to go back!!!

We got back about 6 weeks ago and it was an amazing holiday. We were going to go next year but we are waiting until 2008 now as another section of the family wants to come along as well.

If you can save up and go next year and stay on site in a disney hotel you will also get free disney dining (its basically free meals each day, but a little more complicated, search it if possible and have a read up on it) Thats worth about a grand for a family of four so you would already make a huge saving.

Tickets are expensive but vary widely on price on the net, search around and dont buy at the first place you see.

Universal was not our cup of tea, pretty boring personally! Islands of Adventure and Busch Gardens both amazing thrill parks and lots to do at both of those. Disney very kids orientated obvioulsy.

You will have an amazing time.

    hi

we have just come back from our "budget taste of Disneyland Resort Paris" trip lol :)

we stayed in a eurocamp site ,La Croix De Vieux Pont,(courtesy of the sun £9.50 holidays)just over an hour away from the resort, but there is one 25 mins away :)
we took the ferry which cost £54 for 4 and a car plus a free adult disney ticket so only left us 3 to buy :)

we had one day in DLRP and loved it ! much more so than we expected to TBH as people say oh its nothing compared to the florida one ,the french are rude etc

but everyone we encountered was polite, yes they smoke a LOT ! but we didnt witness any queue jumping etc and this was a saturday so lots of "locals" there too

we had planned to go to florida next may but having thought it through we are going to wait until our youngest is a little older so he can swim with the dolphins ,we want to "do it properly" and be able to do everything we want.

I know it is possible to get late deals etc though ,but we will prob book in advance and it will be a "no expense spared trip "for our joint 30th bdays and 5th wedding anniversary in 2009

    so best get saving lol

so we plan on going to DLRP again next yr,staying offsite ,but with more days in the park this time and maybe a night in one of the onsite hotels :)

have fun whatever you decide https://www.thedibb.co.uk and https://www.disboards.com are fab for answering any Qs you might have and for picking up tips etc :)
  • At last someone who gives Disneyland paris the praise it deserves!! I've done Orlando for two weeks and I've done DLP for 1 day. I think they're both great. But one thing everyone seems to forget is: orlando is Disney WORLD, it has Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Animal Kingdom, MGM Studios, Blizzard Beach, Typhoon Lagoon and Downtown Disney. So its unfair to compare. All you can fairly compare is Magic Kingdom to DLP, and i do just about prefer the yanks to the fro.... er, french, but space mountain is better in paris.

Back to the question... I personally feel £800 for a daytrip to Disney (i know its more than that but that is why you're going) is a little steep. if its only for rides ...alton towers is as good, but shut for winter
    now.
