I've noticed they have been difficult to find for several months. I tend to substitute with sultanas because even though I bake cakes nearly every day I tend to burn currants if they are poking out the top of cakes lol

Ahh! I was trying to find raisins last night in Tesco and could only find the expensive variety or Tesco Value sultanas. I did think it was strange.

I have to admit I found this strange, but looked around a bit and you are right! I am now glad I always do my Christmas cake and pud the first weekend in October (is there a gloating smiley?)

At work last Sunday i lost count of the people asking for currants....they'd all been up to Tesco and they'd run out , so they'd all come down to Waitrose to get some and we had run out too.
We have them in stock now, they are still flying off the shelves tho.

The current situation for currants is low around here. The shelves have been bare for a week or so and all dried fruit stock has been low

Luckily I bought all mine way in advance of Christmas as I expected this and possibly some price rises

There's a date shortage around here!
