deprivation of capital

Hi,
I may be coming into an inheritance in a few months. I'm on income support, DLA, SDA, HB and council tax benefit. If I use the inheritance to buy a house would that class as deprivation of capital? Or would I be expected to use it to live off? Also, would it be possible to ringfence that money for a few months while looking for a property or would I have to buy something straight away?
Also, if I buy into a shared ownership place, would I be able to get housing benefit for the rented part of it?
Please don't judge, I'm just looking for facts and advice.

Hi
Purchasing a house is very unlikely to be deprivation.
If you receive the money but choose not to spend it, it will be considered capital but if you choose to buy a shared ownership, you can claim HB on the rental partI currently manage a Housing Benefit service and have been working in Housing / council tax benefit (as was) since 2001.

You maybe able to ring fence the money for 6 months if you intend to buy a house(which wouldnt be D of C)
you need to speak to I/S before you get the money,or better still write to them so you get a written reply.0
