Advice Needed To Buy Photo Copier For Home

Options
Hi,

I'm thinking about buying a simple photo copier for home. I need it mainly to photo copy Forms and other important documents.

I'm thinking of spending £100ish on it, but am open to spending a bit more upon recommendations.

1)Can I get a decent one for about £100?

2)Please try to recommend one that wouldn't require expensive ink and say where I can purchase it from?

Thank you.

Jay

    Hi,

I only wanted a copier, as I already have separate printer etc.

But I've come across a BROTHER DCP7030 MULTIFUNCTION copier, that comes with printer and scanner.

Here it is along with review:

I can buy it for around £100, so quite happy with price, what do you guys think?

    Thanks.

You could just buy a scanner, as you have a printer. I have a Canon lide 200 which is very good.

Edited now of course if you buy a MFP then 1 bit breaks scanner/printer then you could buy another printer/scanner to replace the broken bit. Or of course you could buy another MFP. In my experience the scanner will probably sort you for a good few years, however th Printer will cost you for lots of consumables , and eventually you will need a newer printer or a better one. Just my opinion of course.

  • If it was me I'd probably buy a new all-in-one printer as it means only one machine to find space for.

I'd probably buy an Epson because they usually use individual ink cartridges & you can usually get very cheap compatible inks so your running costs will be low. You can spend from about £50 up to over £250 on Epson printers depending on what features you want eg fax, wireless etc.

You can check out the specification of any model you are thinking of getting on the epson website https://www.epson.co.uk or on Amazon or Argos etc to check if the printer will support stand-alone copying as this is useful as it means you don't have to turn on your computer.

Also check out prices for replacement ink on the likes of https://www.cartridgepeople.com or http://www.buytech.co.uk/Inkjet-Cartridges/ - Buytech have regular 79p ink sales.

With the way technology is priced these days, sometimes it is cheaper to buy a new printer than to buy a new set of original inks!

You can usually find printer bargains on hotukdeals.com or try the grabbit forum.

    Seconded ....
  • I also agree with the 3-in-1 option. I have an Epson which only cost 50/60 pounds and does the job well - and the ink is cheap too.

Use the rest of the money to pamper yourself!
  • Your inbox is full so here is the reply:

The one I have is the Epson SX415 and I bought it at Tesco (was surprisingly cheaper than on amazon). The SX series still exists and they have newer versions with more features. They can be bought around 50-60 pounds. I would say the whole thing is reliable.

The photocopying is a 'proper' photocopier in that you can photocopy books etc. but it may be slightly hard depending on how big the book is - not that it won't photocopy but the size of the photocopying region is just larger than A4 and you might need to do some balancing! The quality looks fine to me.

I also owned an Epson in the past but the ink suddenly stopped printing so I bought a new one. To my amazement, the ink prices are very cheap - the price of 2 cartridges for the old printer is the price of the 3 in 1 printer! If you don't mind non-genuine cartridges, you can buy a whole large envelope for about 10-15 pounds online. I have a feeling a bit of ink is still left in the cartridges but I can't really complain at the price I'm buying them at.

    Hope that helps!
