Hi guys,
My poor Dell Inspiron 9400 is exhausted, wheezing and breaking down randomly so I'm going to buy another laptop.
Have spent a bit of time searching t'internet but am confused.com
I appreciate there is a sub £350 thread here but I can stretch a little bit further. Can anyone give me some suggestions?
I basically want a smaller unit, 14" would be perfect as I carry it about a fair bit. For working from home, windows 7. As powerful as possible for £500.
Can anyone recommend anything? Any brands that are generally good / bad?
Thanks!:money:

if you want power then in your price range an i3 would be just about reachable.

both of these have i3's but the screen sizes are maybe a bit too big for you.
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/195968 this one is also ok if you want more memory and it comes with free internet security HTHWho would say I couldn't make you mine? You were mine since th' beginning of time. Who would say we were far apart? You ever reside in the core of my heart?

exhausted and wheezing, meaning slow? If so, backup your data and reinstall windows from the recovery partition!!

Hi there, thanks for the replies.
Closed - The laptop is a fair age (about 5 or 6 years). We've had to replace the battery and the power cable in that time. We've also bought an external hard drive and moved everything onto it and then rebooted the system as you suggested, but it still shuts down at random etc - I think its dead!
yummy-mummy, thanks for the suggestions. They are a bit big as you say, but are along the right lines.
I've seen a few on amazon with larger memory. Can anyone advise on the best one of these two? I know that I want the largest amount of storage which i think is what the figure 500GB refers to, and then I think the 4gb ram means it will process things quicker, but I don't know what the other numbers and spec mean.

If you've moved your only copy of important data to an external drive, consider the consequences of what happens if that drive fails. Shut's down at random?!!
