Any laptop help please?

Options
Hi, I have a Dell laptop which got a virus in august & will no longer start up. My husband (I don't know how) got all my pictures.documents etc off & onto another machine. He now says he needs to re install windows but he can't because there is a number on the bottom of the laptop which he needs to re install windows but the number has rubbed off. I'm sure if I leave him long enough he'll get it get it sorted but I am struggling without it & would really appreciate any suggestions for what to do that I can either tell my husband or maybe do I need to take it to a proffesional....?

Any ideas gratefully received as I am a complete techno know nothing!

if you are sure you don't need any of the data, use the recovery partition (CTRL+F11 at boot)

Alternately, post details of the problem, what happens when you boot?

  • Thank you for your replies. No we don't have a Dell recovery CD (says OH). OH says he will look at it today along with the above suggestions. If there is no progress from him today then I may steal it back & post some more info about whats wrong with it. Thanks very much again for your replies, I will update later :-)
