income tax help...i'm screwed!

guys, i got my wages in today and i think my tax has been calculated wrong. i'm actually getting less than i was when doing less hours for less money!!!

my wages before tax came to £849.16, i've recieved £674.54, which is about three quarters of my money.

i used an income tax calculator someone linked to on this site and it said i should get about £750.

can anyone help??? the gist of this is that after bills/food/cc minimums i actually have nothing left to pay debts, but i did have extra when i worked part time for nearly 50p less an hour!?! was there any point in me trying to better my situation???

It does seem a little high but really you need to contact your companies payroll dept so they can check it.

    not enough information

post absolutely everything on the payslip except of course identifying info like your name/employer etc.

If you are on standard tax rate it would have been £729.26. This is using tax code 503L. It would help though if you do as clapton says and put the other figures and your tax code on here.
  • Are you having any pension or anything taken out? Alternatively they could have put you on a basic tax code for now.

If this is a new job you will be on emergency tax code until your employer get a P45 from your previous job or a new tax code from the tax office

    Hi
sounds very much like emergency tax(as already stated)can you look at the payslip and post the tax code to verify)

Dont be shy about contacting the tax office yourself as they really are very helpful with enquiries(have details of employers address etc to hand in case they ask for more details)

    good luck
  • I agree with the other posters.

It's often quicker to phone your tax office directly that go through payroll. They should be able to change your tax code or at least tell you what the problem is.
 What if the hokey cokey is what it's all about?
