Also US TVs are IIRC on a different transmitting system from ours (ATSC vs PAL/DVB - there is a map at the bottom of the DVB page showing which regions use which TV format) and so probably wouldn't work on our system at all.

Buying a TV from the US is useless as well as expensive, even with the move to digital rather than analogue TV.

Not to mention the wrong voltage, wrong power plug and of course the biggest problem with importing such items and that's import duty and VAT on top.

@Suited - no-one can see his ID so he's quite safe.

There are ways of picking it up via goofbay.

Thanks. Thinking about it, even feedback has a bit of a hole in it.

  • But even if someone can be bothered to find my Ebay ID what harm can they do?
  • plenty; if you sell anything you could end up with malicious buyers or idiots who just fancy annoying you .

I would remove the item number asap in your first post, you never know

Beleive me they can do a lot. I tend to be a bit grumpy on here so pick up people who maybe want to 'teach me a lesson' I did once give too much info about one of my accounts, I got identified by someone and he tried to auction wreck me.

It made life very complicated for a while and took me a lot of time to sort out and probably lost me a lot of sales as well.

Thanks, have edited, just didn't think anyone would do that. Surely every time we buy or sell the other Ebayer has our ID. But perhaps they are on our side.
They have now sold 24 with one positive feedback from a purchaser!!!!!

Some people take internet life very seriously for them 'winning' any argument even on MSE is more important that just about anything. Therefore if someone annoys them on here and they cannot do anything about it they may turn to other methods to 'even things up'.

The other problem is we all make mistakes , most of those we can correct well out of sight so no one here will ever know. We have seen several incidences of sellers releasing their iDs on here and then getting harrassed, either due to not being correctly registered as a business or for funny little things that can be reported to ebay.

People are also regularly told to keep buying and selling accounts separate. Since eBay stopped sellers leaving negs for buyers, a way for angry sellers to take out their anger on a buyer who has left them a neg is to buy from them solely to leave a neg. Obviously that's not a good thing to do but that doesn't stop idiots from doing it.

I reluctantly started a posting/buying ID separate from my selling ID when I left a neg for someone and either they or someone who took exception to things I say on the forums - and as you can see I rarely pull my punches - wrecked my main account. I didn't put two and two together until someone else emailed me a month after I got the negs so eBay didn't remove them, meaning all the work I'd put in to maintaining a good account was ruined.

If you are a buyer only then there is not much anyone can do as someone will only see your ID after you bid, paid and have exchanged feedback, but if you sell as well you would be in more danger. eBay have gone to lengths to protect buyers from stalkers and harassment, (including spammers) but sadly there is not much they can do to protect sellers in this way as sellers' details by necessity have to be public and they are vulnerable to wrecking.

Very informative thanks. I mainly use Ebay for buying but sometimes sell the odd item, just sold a car, great buyer but then he got a bargain and we both know it.
