de mister cloth

I have a nissan x trail and find it terrible for steaming up and the fans and air con don't do much to clear it. Currently I have a couple of cloths I have been using to clear it but none of them are any good.

Any recommendations for clearing the condensation or even for preventing it in the first place?

  • I have the same problem. I use RainX Anti-Fog.

There is possibly a lot of moist air in the car which isn't getting out. Keep the windows as much as possible, overnight if possible, wipe it off with a sponge/cloth, then leave the cloth to dry OUTSIDE the car so the moisture gets out of the car.
  • If you don't have time for the above then a few bags of silica gel on the dash works for me.
  • Wash the inside of your windscreen properly with glass cleaner. Then dry out your car's interior. Make sure the recirculate button isn't on.

I didn't think I would have a problem with this car as it has leather interior, the boot is plastic etc but the dogs are often wet when they are in it which is probably the cause. The rainX product has terrible write ups on the halfords site - how effective do you find it CPJames19?

I would use kitchen towel (paper towel)

I also just throw my wet paper towels on the footwell mats and then forget to take them with me when I leave the car, but you should take them with you!

I try to avoid using anything other than the blowers to de-mist my car, as anything else just tends to smear the windscreen. I also find that if the misting up is very dence, then any cloth will just create water on the inside of the screen when I wipe it, and thus making it worse than when I started! Also, when this water dries, the screen looks terrible. I know it can take a while to clear sometimes, but I find that the blowers (preferably with A/C), along with some patience is the best thing to clear a misted up car. Bear in mind that it's good to excersize the A/C in the winter months anyway, so that it functions okay in the summer months when you most need it.

Are you sure you don't have a leak or is the heater set permanently to recirculate?
