Anyone used Conveyancing Direct in Glasgow?

Hi folks, arranging purchase only conveyancing for a 'first time buying' flat in north east Scotland. Have had quotes inc. vat and land reg costs from local shop-based solicitor of c. £715 and a quote from Glasgow based 'Conveyancing Direct', a distance provider of £516 inc vat and costs. I know the general feeling on these boards is towards a 'bricks and mortar' solicitor but I am considering the distance option as it should be a pretty simple transaction, recent refurb, no mortgage involved, no chain etc. and it is a decent difference in price!
I've read a few comments on the board about conveyancing direct but all are quite old (4 or 5 years mostly) so just wondering if there were any more recent thoughts on their performance?
Many thanks for any feedback
Sandy

I'm using them at the moment and have no complaints at all yet. They answer the phone promptly and you get a direct line through to the person dealing with your case, so you don't have to listen to a receptionist read off your file to give you updates.
Mine is also a relatively simple transaction, for a new build, otherwise, I'm not sure I would have been comfortable using online...but I only live up the road and can pop in! So far so good.0 -
Cheers Badgerface, thats interesting to know - had you received any recommendations before or did you just 'take a punt' on using a distance conveyancer?

They use mainly Paralegals for most of the work, but they should be fine for a straight forward purchase but an old neighbour of mine used them (we were both selling at the same time so comparing notes) and they had a hell of a time with them. They used them for a sale and purchase. They said never again everything had to be done via email and they took days to respond they felt they were constantly chasing them. I suppose with most companies there are good and bad points.February 2013 NSD - 40

No, I'd had no recommendations for them, but after giving them a call, I was pretty happy to proceed. They knew what I was talking about, have dealt with the builder before and spent half an hour explaining the Scottish house buying system to me...(I'm not only a FTB, but also English). Then subsequently called to make sure I fully understood the missives and run through my mortgage offer before completing.
To address the above post, I haven't received any e-mails from them, it has all been dealt with via phone and post, which although slower is much more to my preference!
As I say, my purchase isn't complete yet, but it looks ok so far.0
