Benefit circumstances change help please

Hi, Can someone help. My partner has moved in with me. I was claiming income support as a lone parent. Now I have phoned them and they have stopped my money and said that my partner has to claim. He is on Employment support allowance as he has cancer and they will send a form out in the post. I am a full time student and as a lone parent i could claim income support. But now I think that I wont be able to. All the bills come out of my bank. So how long will a new claim take to set up. Also I will need to change tax credit into joint claim and make a new claim for housing benefit. I am trying to do the right thing but cant afford for things to take weeks to be sorted out especially before christmas. I am trying to find a part time job but not had any luck yet,.

In that case, it is impossible to give an accurate answer - the OP will have to ask the relevant depts that are dealing with their claim.

You'll be included in his ESA claim which will be increased to the couple rate. He can do it over the phone. It does take some weeks usually - although god knows why as they already have both your details.

You just need to tell LA for HB purposes. You might have to complete a change of circs form.

You must make a joint claim for CTC as your single claim is no longer valid

VERY IMPORTANT - if he's getting DLA at middle or high rate of the care component you should consider claiming Carers Allowance and being the main claimant for IS. He'd have to withdraw his ESA claim but it's likely you'd be better off. Please take advice before you make a move but you need to do this without delay.

If he does claim for you both he can always have it paid into your bank account so your dd's are all covered

i took a partner in last year also and i had been on benefits before he moved in as lost my job year before,
i found it a totally headache and am still trying to get things sorted out one year on,,, we where thrown into rent areas and council tax debt almost straight away , as everything stopped and although my partner works he only gets £1100,00 on a good month, our rent is half of that,,,
im forever having to take wage slips down the housing office and their forever writing asking for something, and have had to fill the forms in 3 times just to get £1.14p off my council tax,,,
i honestly cant wait to get out this house and get full time job, as im sick of keep repeating myself to these people, iv sent 2 letters telling them my oldest son has moved to Russia, and will be settling in Germany after his work out their is done,,,, and only today i got another letter asking me what date he left AGAIN!!! i jus want to scream, plzzzz , good luck to you im not sure with your partner being on benefits how it works but it took them 7 months to start my first child tax credit payment and they only back date 3 months,,,
i cant wait to run as far as pos from the benefit system i feel it keeps you in chains,,,
i have a very loving and supportive partner now who has been a great help to me while i have been trying to care for disabled mum and son it was a big struggle when i was on my own, and iv done lots of courses to up date my cv, thanks to having my partner with me now to help me, his a good man and works hard , id not change a thing i'd rather have his support which is worth more than any money in the world,:),,, im finally feeling like a real family and like i'll soon be able to work full time and have a bit of independence, xx

Ooops missed that. Ys it's 21 hours if I remember rightly. However I've seen some recent case law about this so when I can remember where I saw it I'll post if it's relevant
