Can I cancel new SottishPower Account before switching
Options
Hi, I recently (1st Nov) switched my energy supplier from EDF to Scottish Power when Scottish Power were the cheapest.
I have since found out that Scottish Power have increased their prices and EDF are freezing theirs until next March, so would like to stick with EDF.
My initial email from Scottish Power says that I had to contact them within 7 days from receiving the fist email from them, if I wanted to cancel, which has now passed. However, they are not actually switching my electricity from EDF to Scottish Power until the 4th Dec.
Am I allowed to cancel the switch over as it has not happened yet, or am I legally obliged to now stay with the new company?
Can anyone offer any advice?
Thanks

Call EDF and they should be able to stop it for you. British Gas called me a couple of days before my switchover date just to double check I really wanted it all to go through and told me that was my last chance if I wanted to stay with them.0

You can still stop the physical switch, but you might get hit with an ETC on the new SP tariff, if it has one (normally £30 for electricity and £20 for gas)? All depends at what point the contract is deemed to have begun, which I'm not sure of.No free lunch, and no free laptop0

I am awaiting contact from Scottish power after sending a request through money-supermarket dated the 15 Nov. Money-supermarket said they would forward the request within 24 hours. I have heard nothing. Therefore I cannot yet have I any contract with Scottish Power. Money-supermarket is not an agent simply a referral service. SP may decide not to contact me or decline any application.
My guess is that SP will write to me with a formal contract stating the date they will start supplying fuel on a given date in the future. If I acquiesce at that point and do not write within 7 days to cancel then, after the 7 days had elapsed, I would expect the contract to be binding to both parties.
