what more plausable excuse could he give to job 1 to maybe keep the job open if he excepted job 2?
job 2 has said that if the job 1 didn't work out then please 'bear us in mind'?

To be honest nothing these days is permanent.
The "perks" can all disappear but basic salary is the key.
Number two sounds the better bet. If he can really shine he may be able to make himself valued by the company and they will do all they can to make his post "permanent". But maybe not.
£6k a month difference - worth the gamble I think.
But as others have said there are many more factors to consider
Good luck!
Edit - and no need to worry about what to say. He tells whicheever company he doesn't choose that he has a better offer, much as he would like to work for them. business is business. They will understand - and may even make a much better offerWe all evolve - get on with it0 -
The thing about pensions is the state provides for you in old age if you have nothing, and takes it all away from you if you do have anything (house, savings...) You could put the 6k into a high interest account.
This is totally unlike teaching which is my background, if you are interviewed you are asked if you would take up the post and if you have any hesitation you do not get it!Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:
I have done reading too!

The State Pension itself is paid completely without any means testing at pension age, State Pension Credit is the benefit which means tests pensioners.I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0 -
the 6k isn't extra to what we are used to! It is just more then the first job!! He was working for 26k before! So no matter what we will be losing money!
