If you're doing a full renovation with lots of replastering then you might want to think about doing a rewire anyway - so you're future proofed and have all the sockets / switches where you want them.

You've had comments that your existing wires look OKish - only you know if they're adequate for your lifestyle.

A decent periodic inspection report on your property would set your mind at ease. As a poster indicated previously they can cost anything from £100 upwards depending on firm and standards. You get what you pay for sometimes and it depends on the size of your property.

The cables in the picture with the light are over 10 years old definately as the new colours were brought in prior to the upgrade of the 17th edition. it is difficult to tell from the pictures. without looking it is difficult for anyone to determine how good or bad your electrics are. If you do any kmajor alterations the work must comply with the 17th edition wiring regulations.

Use a qualified electrician and ensure you get certificates for any works works carried out.
