Some councils in England and Wales have been lobbying the government for the right to increase the amount they can charge motorists in parking fines, the BBC has learned.
The local authorities want to bring their fines in line with London, which has a higher upper limit of £120.
Penalties outside the capital currently have an upper limit of £70.

I'm all for an increase if fines for other crimes are increased proportionately.
So if a fine for parking is to be £120, then I'd argue that shoplifting is far more serious than the average £80 fine imposed. How much more serious? IMHO at least 10 to 100 times more serious. So we should be looking at a minimum fine of £800 to £8,000 for shoplifting. The man without a signature.0 -
Fancy a go at them, http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/haveyoursay/2010/11/will_increased_parking_fines_c.html
Worth mentioning mse and pepipoo whilst you are at it.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0 -
I thought I saw wonderful Mr Patrick Troy on TV this morning.
I suppose he wants it raising so his private members club operatives (BPA members) can raise their charges to cover the losses due to word getting round that PPC tickets are no more than toilet paper and can be ignored.0
