More "Parking Eye" Advice/Help Please..

Hi,

Just got one of these parking tickets through this morning. I'm well aware that PE are a bit of a joke company from the 5 minutes web research but want a but of advice anyway..

Basically I bought the parking ticket for my Mum's car and displayed it in the car, unfortunately I couldnt remember what the exact number plate was so entered what I thought it was and unfortunately thought the parking attendant/warden would be clever enough to realise that a couple of wrong letters were ok..

However, they dont have parking attendants do they, they use ANPR so the number plate that's on their system that I entered is different to the car's which will have been logged by the ANPR.

I dont have any paperwork (no shop receipt showing -£2 or actual parking thing) but I think I know what registration I entered. Obviously if they looked that 'plate up on their system they should know that a ticket was bought for that vehicle, but the vehicle didnt enter the car park. Secondly I would be on CCTV running to and from the machine approximately 1 minute after entering the car park.

..So anyway, a lot of posts suggest to ignore the parking notice completely, but with it being my Mum's car she is a bit worked up and wants to do things properly and 'appeal', or even pay the fine as it's the easy option.

Should we appeal, despite the lack of paperwork (but knowing a ticket WAS purchased, just with a slightly wrong number plate) or should we just ignore it completely?

Cheers, Greg.

Just ignore. It's as simple as that.

Thanks for both your replies. Yes I think I've seen your thread Mark and will keep an eye on it.

If it was my own car I'm not sure what I'd do, the part that annoys me most is that we were parked fully legitimately but cannot prove it without information from Parking Eye.. My Mother is the sort that never puts a foot wrong and does everything by the book. If 'security' is on their priorities as their 'Charge Notice' suggests then I suppose they should have no problem spotting me on CCTV. However that means replying to them and some admission that I had done something wrong (entered wrong registration).

Please tell your Mum this is like a phishing email and she must ignore the scam completely, she does not have to 'prove' anything to anyone. I know she wants to do things properly and appeal because that's what it says on the bogus ticket - but that's why these firms design their tickets like that, so they appear to be legit. They are NOT, there is NO appeal, the answer is always NO.

It never was a real fine. Private Parking Company (PPC) tickets are a scam, never pay them.

The Parking Eye letter-chain is shown here, all letters. It is REALLY important that your Mum gets familiar with these scam letters NOW as the wording is scary and mentions Court, CCJs, credit rating being affected, even a home visit (NONE of which actually happens, not ever with Parking Eye):

Also show Mum the clip from the May 2010 episode of Watchdog where they showed exactly what to do with PPC tickets (their example was an ANPR ticket too):

Once she is in the middle of the debt collector threatograms, if she's feeling harassed then you could report Parking Eye and the debt collector for the criminal offence of harassment:

HTH - whatever you do, ensure your Mum does NOT just pay this scam, it's not a fine!
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

  • I have today received a charge notice from Parking eye, even after reading all the blogs etc I still have a niggling doubt that someone will come knocking at my door!! I overstayed my welcome in a free Aldi car park, I didn't even see the signs advising of length of stay etc. My first instinct was just to pay up, £70.00, but if paid before 12th Dec will be reduced to £40.00. I really just need some reassurance that if I ignore these that I won't end up with any further liabilities etc. HELP!!

Of course they won come "knocking on your door". They are trying to frighten you into paying money you don't owe them. Please read all the other threads on here that deal with private parking "tickets". It's as simple as that.

  • For what it is worth, Parking Eye have not taken me to court despite sending me silly and unlawful begging letters. I would love them to do so but we both know that they would lose. Take the good advice given by trisontana and put the money to better use.
Still waiting for Parking Eye to send the court summons! Make my day!
