possible behavioural issue with cat ...

my male cat has decided to pee on anything and everything in my room from time to time. my mattress has been piddld on at least half a dozen times, along with any clothing that happens to be on the floor (clean or dirty!). i'm not sure if this is a behavioural issue, an alpha cat marking thing or what! he also has his normal toilet times in the try and outside.

i have now stopped both my cats (the other is female, no piddling) coming to my room to try to avoid any further issues, but i have two small boys who like to roam and open doors ...

has anyone else had an issue like this, or can anyone give me some advice on how to stop/prevent this? it is costing me a small fortune getting duvets and mattresses cleaned and we're skint enough as it is :o

thanks in advance for any advice.

    Hiya,
My boy did this for a while (taking a dump on my bed as well!) but it seemed to clear up once I changed his litter-type. Turns out he didnt like it!

*If you want to hear something funny... I got home late one night from work and after taking a shower, I walked into my room- turned out the light near my bedroom door and threw myself into bed for the night...... the next morning after hearing my alarm, I woke to find I had been tossing and turning in my cats poo without realising as he had pooed on my bed whilst I was at work! GROSS! :o

  • I've had this a few times with my cat and I took him to the vets on every occasion. Each time it turned out to be an infection due to uric stones. He was avoiding using the litter as it was painful for him to pee. He's on a special wet food diet now and it hasn't happened for 5 months. Some cats are proned to this and this should be ruled out first before addressing whether it is a behavioural problem. I also worked out that my cat also hates a covered cat litter box.

  • I agree you need to get him vet checked before assuming it is purely behavioural.
