Got a security system installed and the unit can be monitored via the internet but installer says i need a static IP address.
I am currently with Talk talk and they say they dont offer a static IP address. Any clues how i can get one or an intermediate website that offers something i can use for my secuirty system monitoring when away from home?

That won't give a persistant IP address, rather a url which will automatically change the DNS record when your IP address changes. If the OP's security system needs an IP address then this wouldn't work unfortunately.0 -
You may have to move to an ISP which offers a static IP to monitor your system.0

My brother in law did this when he installed web cam in a nesting box attached to his house, anyone could log in through the website and have the video of the chicks streamed to their PC.
I will check up on which site he used, as he doesnt have a static address and get back to youDon't try to teach a pig to sing - it wastes your time and annoys the pig0 -
I would have though if you know your IP address you would be able to access the device regardless of whether its static or not. If you're permanently on-line this wont change too often anyway.
Edit: Just an additional thought - you could set up a script on your email client that would email your IP address to wherever you are in response to another email. Eg You would sent an email to your home computer with a specific subject line - the email programme would identify the email with a rule you have setup which would then run a script to return your external IP address to the email address you just emailed from.
That way, if your IP address did change you would be able to find out the new address.0 -
