Hi all
Can anyone give me any more info on Kindergeld whilst being based in Germany. We have two children 5 & 2 years. And as I have now seen that the LOA is being reduced next month, just wondered on the status of claiming Kindergeld along with child benefit?
Thankyou

Just did a quick google and found this..................any help?
AllowancesLocal Overseas Allowance (LOA). On arrival in BFG you should ensure that your
Unit Admin Office publishes your entitlement to LOA. The LOA rate that you will
receive will vary depending on whether you are single or married and accompanied
by your spouse and/or children and the number of children that you have.Child Benefit (CB). Wives of members of HM Forces who accompany their
husbands overseas have a statutory entitlement to CB regardless of whether or not
eligible children live with their parents overseas.KindergeldRecent legislative changes MAY make it possible for you to claim Kindergeld, the
German equivalent of Child Benefit. The rate of benefit paid by this scheme is higher
than you would normally receive in the UK. Providing your child does not earn in
excess of €6660.00 pa there are two types of Kindergeld to which you may be
entitled:EstG – Entitlement under the Income Tax LawUnder EstG a spouse who is employed on the German Economy and thus paying
unemployment insurance contributions, may be eligible for the full rate of Kindergeld.
In this case, the spouse is no longer eligible for UK Child Benefit, and must inform
the UK DSS Child Benefit Office in Newcastle upon Tyne that they are in receipt of
Kindergeld. It is a criminal offence to claim the full rate from both countries.BKGG – Entitlement under the Federal Child Benefit LawUnder BKGG, spouses who are not subject to unlimited liability for German IncomeOffice for further information and the necessary claim forms.
Tax MAY have a claim. This is likely to be the case for the majority of BFG spouses. If
eligible under BKGG you will be entitled to the difference between UK and German
Child Benefit, but only WHILE YOU REMAIN RESIDENT IN GERMANY. You retain
your right to UK Child Benefit.
The information given above covers who is likely to be granted Kindergeld and who
is not. It must be remembered it is guidance only. Contact your RAO or Unit Welfare

Extract from the web, not sure if the rates are relevant, or indeed whether you would be entitled to it, but if so you would be paid around 160 pounds extra by the Germany government. The rates of 184 euros per month per child are abated by the amount of English CB you get
"Just about any taxpayer with children can get the Kindergeld, whether employed, self employed or independent. You get it as a rule until the children turn 18, though it can continue until they are 25 if they are still in school. You get €184 per month for each of the first two children"
Make the most of it, the way LOA is being cut and future allowances are due to be cut you will need it , the Germany gravy train is grinding to a halt and is due to parked in sheds by 20200 -
Go to your welfare office and get the kindergeld forms. Im quite surprised that your welfare office didnt give you the forms when you booked in with the Unit.
Welfare clerk should be able to help you fill in the forms.Sealed Pot Challenge member #982
