Hi - I have an old PC (2006) but it goes well, is well maintained with extra memory and I don't see the necessity to scrap it yet.
This evening when I booted it up, the screen background colour was pale pink as was Outlook when I opened it and every other window.
I ran Spy bot, nothing. I'm running Ad-aware as I type. I restored to yesterday - no difference. The only thing I haven't done is try changing the screen but it is more recent than the PC!
The graphics drivers are old (2006) MEDION RADEON X740XL and I don't think there are more recent ones.
In the past, I've added memory, replaced DVD drives and stuff like that. Will it be anymore tricky to whack in a new graphics card?

Your monitor may be faulty, I'd recommend testing a different monitor before you buy a new graphics card.
Installing a new graphics card is very easy, you probably have an AGP slot, there might be a retaining clip on the motherboard for the card. Be careful handling electronic equipment though due to static build up. If you have one, use a antistatic wrist wrap if you have one, if not, discharge any static by touching the metal case and try keeping in contact with the metal case when installing the new card.0 -
Test the vga lead as well.0

Thanks very much for your responses - turned out to be the monitor after all. I'll look for some bargains now!0

check the vga lead at both ends, check for bent pins and kinks in the cable and refit!!

Swapped the vga cable for a new one. No bent pins. Looks like I'll have to shell out for a new screen - still, I can get a bigger one now. Thanks for everyone's suggestions.0
