HELP! Argos Collection for Refund - No-one turns up to collect the item!

Hi,
Just wondering if anyone can offer any advice here. Bought a flat-pack desk over the internet from Argos and found out it lacked the correct number of holes to affix parts to. It arrived on Sat 13th Nov.
Phoned up Argos to request that it be collected and that I wanted a refund. A collection was arranged for Tues 16th. No-one turned up to collect the item. I rang up Argos who informed me that it had been tracked in the system as having been collected that morning. I informed the customer service rep that it certainly hadn't been picked up as it was still in my hallway.
Another collection was then arranged for Today (Fri 19th Nov) and the driver has indeed not turned up again.
I can't return the item to a store as it's far too heavy and I don't own a car. I can't keep phoning up and having someone fob me off with collection pledges that are not fulfilled! I'm starting to get worried as I have no idea how I can return the item.
Has anyone got any advice they can give me regarding my situation?
