    If money is needed in the short term, don't really want to have to wait for FSCS to make good any loss.

    Put at least 3 x lloyds vantage accounts at 4% with £7k each and as many more as you can wangle.

    That should get you near or below the £50K FSCS to make you comfortable with the Post Office @ 2.9% Opinions4u previously suggested. Theres no chance that Irish Banks will (be allowed to) fail but even so new Eu rules from Dec31 mean you're covered to £85k & get paid compensation within 7 days of default.
