  • Things are changing - there will be thousands of people caught in the coming year or so that wouldnt otherwise have been. And about time too.

about time too! these single parents claiming when really they are a couple is a disgrace, why would they have not been caught though?
  • i have also had one of these letters recieved it yesterday. It said your single tax credit claim is it right? I am not sure why this is from the compliance team office either. I think though that they are sending out these letters to all single claimants and it is to just check all your details. My letter said i SHOULD phone them to check my details which i will. It did not say i had to phone them. It is scary whether you have done something wrong or not!!! Has anybody managed to ring them yet?
  • I'd send her to prison for a couple of months. She deserves it.

    Seriously.
The Internet. Allowing little people to get a power trip since 1996.

You know , callous as this may sound...i am so blo ody glad that these cheats are going to be caught !

Myself and my OH have managed to go out to work even when our children were young , we relied on the very much appreciated help of grandparents at times to assist with childcare (when our children were young we regularly worked opposite shifts so one of us could be at home) but we did it !

Tax credits exist to help the genuine families receive the help they need and deserve not to be abused by people who see them as an easy way to gain some extra cash to which they should not be entitled !
The loopy one has gone :j
  • I received this same letter from HMRC today. This forum is really helpful. But with all things statutory I think it's best to get legal advice. The Child Poverty Action Group website (cpag) has draft letters from lawyers about offsetting overpayments in this type of case, so this may be helpful for those of you who are worried about the consequences of attempting to put right a past mistake.
  • hello,jengadreads

i am posting this for the attention of your friends=i strongly urge her/him to call the tco/compliance officer number and come clean as they know that he/she is living with a partner .
this is something that has happened to me as a person -truly as human i tried to lie to them but they cut me out completely with series of evidence they had.
come of it they were expert and they know what they were doing

Eventually they help me out ,because they know iam scared and i have realise my mistake

They will cancelled your single claim and ask when your partner moved in ===please tell the truth they properbly got a date already.

They will send a new claim form to you,it takes 3wks to arrive-
Fill it with joint details and they will sort the rest for you REMEMBER TO WRITE AND STICK 3 MTS BACKDATED ON THE CLAIM FORM
YOU WILL NOT LOOSE MUCH MONEY IF THEY USE NOTIONAL PAYMENT OFFSETTING for you. they will pay you what you should have ben entitled to if you had make the correct claim in time.
dear friend come clean and have rest of mind so that you can celebrate xmas in good spirit.

    i wish you goodluck.

how do you get them to NOTIONAL PAYMENT OFFSETTING
as im havign trouble with tax credits they are asking for 2 years payments back and i want them to offset my payments
    Thanks Joanne
  • You would be best to ring tco and explain to them that you would like to discuss notional entitlement . They should be able to take it from there .

  • So if your friend had not recieved this letter she just would of carried on lying and claim to be single? Nice...

It is people like your friend that make everyone think single parents have someone living with them on the sly.

Your friend should face the consequences to her actions, I hope she gets caught.
