Accepted for Credit Card, Then Declined! Why?

Hello,

I recently applied for a credit card with my Bank (HSBC).
I got an inbox message on my online bank saying i had been accepted for credit.
They sent out the terms & conditions which i signed and sent back.
A few days later i got another letter saying that i had now been refused credit with no explaination.
I also noticed that they have done 5 credit checks on me since i applied which is now going to obviously effect my credit score which is at the top end of Fair 820 score.
I called them but no one could give me any answers so ive logged a complaint. One person told me it was because me signitures did not match, another told me that wouldnt be the reason why.
I dont understand how you can be accepted and then declined. It doesnt make sense and it is totally unfair to do this to customers, dont you agree?
Ive spent 2 weeks planning my card tarting and transfering balance and this has now puck me right up the river with no paddle.

Any ideas would be great. I need to know if i have a case to put forward?!

Thanks

You can have those duplicate searches removed, I did it with Halifax last year who searched me three times in one day.

    Both duplicate searches were removed.

    I asked this earlier.

I have been accepted for an Egg card, i want to transfer also, i have signed the documents online so is this a contract. I have had confirmation that i was accepted and know what my limit will be.

Does anyone know if the online signature bit is a bnding contract or can they still decline me.

    thanks

They can decline or remove your facility at any time - look at the small print on your agreement.
