It can be done if you really want it.....
I left school with some GCSE's mostly d's ... i went to do childcare i completed my first yr I was 16 when i moved out my parents house to live with my boyfriend and had to put my studies on hold to work . In 2005 i fell pregnant with my 1st child and had another child in 2007 I didnt think i would be able to study again and get where i want to be .
today ....i am doing my health and social care diploma and working in a nursery school . I hope to get into nursing one day. I had to pay for my health and social care diploma but ...instead of christmas presents and birthday presents i asked for money for my course fees and exams0 -
Original Poster - Dont let people get you down - I think that the idea of a thread about dream jobs is very interesting.
The job that I wanted to do as a youngster was a Journalist, but that changed when a neighbour got murdered and we had journalists knocking on our front door digging for dirt, i realised then that I could never do that job.
Then I wanted to be a Primary School Teacher, but I didn't finish my A Levels and do not have a degree.
However now, I'm 32 and have worked in offices for the past 14 years and I still dont know what I would love to do!... all the jobs that I think I would 'enjoy' may be very rewarding, but not in a financial sense.0 -
As others have said dream jobs are out there. You just have to work bloody hard to get them!
I do get what you're saying about entry requirement into certain professions constantly changing. It's a pain in the bum but not impossible to get round.
Personally I've always wanted to be a nurse. I left school with average GCSE's but luckily enough to get into nursing (all you needed at the time was 5 GCSE's at grade C or above). I first applied when I was 18, got an interview but was told I didn't have the care experience. Fair enough. So I go out and get a job as a HCA. Did that for a while just to get the experience needed. Applied to uni again, this time successfully. Other circumstances meant I had to defer my place for a year but I eventually started Sept 09.
The entry requirements for nursing has now changed from only needing GCSE's to study for the Diploma to now needing A Levels to study at degree level. The diploma has been (or is being) phased out to bring nursing up to degree standards in line with other medical professions
Not exactly a huge hurdle for most people, just means you have to do some more studying to get those extra qualifications!
Like I said a pain in the bum but completely doable!Future Mrs Gerard Butler
