Help with parking tribunal :(

Hi,

As a genuinely good citizen of this country, im very nervous as i've had to fight my corner for a parking ticket i received!

Im in Southampton & i genuinely forgot to put up a visitor parking permit, Southampton City Council have shown no leniency or compassion so i've had to take it all the way to a tribunal!! Ive got to do a hearing and wanted to hear from people who have been through this & can prepare me for whats its like, any tips or information i will need to get me through!

The stress caused by this is unbelievable!! I really dont see why anyone has the right to put another innocent human being through this just for their own benefit! :(

HELP!

So if you "genuinely forget" it is ok. You should only receive a ticket for doing it deliberately?

But councils are allowed to make mistakes, in the wording of their tickets, their presentation of lines and signs, and their handling of appeals? They seem to think so.

And if they mucked up the ticket or their signs then they deserve to lose at the tribunal and I hope they do but "genuinely forgetting" has to be in the top 10 of lame excuses of 2010.

Was it worth all the stress? I know you may feel the council have shown no leniency, but forgetfulness is not a strong defence. Anyway the tribunal don't know what its like in Southampton but here it was similar to a job interview they ask questions you tell them your side then they make a decision. I was with a friend it was her tribunal, so it wasn't to bad for me, but she seemed to cope with it OK.

    Have a look here

OP - what are the grounds for your appeal? Have you checked the ticket, and any lines and signs for accuracy, or are you just appealing on the basis that you forgot?

We could really do with seeing everything you've received and sent.

Contact the CAB (Citizens Advice Bureau) and the very best of luck!! Also, most council's have their own Advice Bureau who you can contact on the 'phone, Good luck!

I can sympathise with the OP, the other day I was shopping and genuinely forgot to pay for the wristwatch I had put in my pocket. The security guard caught me after a one mile chase and I am now having to appear before a magistrate.

As the OP says, I don't think anyone has right to put another person through this stress purely because they are stupid enough to fail to comply with the law or regulations :D
