Reduce my credit limit please!

Not specifically cards, but close..

I want to reduce what is in my opinion my rediculously high credit limits on 2 mail order catalogue accounts I have. I want to keep the accounts open as I use them from time to time but always pay off what I owe before ordering anything else.

I have written to both Next Directory and Littlewoods but have received no response after a couple of weeks.

Has anyone else had difficulty reducing their limits?

I could phone, but I don't see why I should have to as:
    a) they both offer facilities via their websites to contact them, and
    b) they both charge me to call them

  • well then just wait. im sure they are busy people. they cant just put you to the top of the list, when really they prefer people to have as much credit of them as possible.

although i do understand where your coming from.

Are you really serious about reducing your limits or just having a drama queen moment.

Email them failing that use saynoto0870 and get the freephone/landline number as.

You will most likely find that they reduce your limit after xmas rush when there less busy as you have sent a letter.

I don't suppose by any chance you've considered calling them to ask...?

I reduced my Littlewoods credit limit instantly by phone using the 0800 number on saynoto0870 , there is an 0800 number for Next too ;)

Just spend less. Having a large credit limit doesn't compel you to use it. You won't get arrested.

No mate that's not why I'm doing it.

My balances on these catalogue accounts is never above around £100, yet the limits are over £4,000 on each.

I was talking to Experian about something else and they advised that these limits would be considered potential debt if I apply for a mortgage in the near future - even though I owe Next and Littlewoods nothing at the time.
Also if I were to become a victim of ID theft, the thieves would have a field day on a high limit credit a/c.

Thats all it is really, it's not because I have a debt problem.
