University Parking

Hi everyone

My university only permits students to park on the grounds if they hold a parking permit, which is only granted in special circumstances. They fine you £20 if you do not have a permit, which I think is the university's own security guards who issue the fine.

I've also noticed that they don't take any pictures of the vechicle breaking parking regulations so technically, there is no evidence of any infringement of regulations. Am I correct in thinking the parking tickets they issue are completely unenforceable?

If I for example receive a ticket from them and I just ignore it.. could the incident affect my student status at the university, are they able to get my name and address and see that I'm a current student?

Thanks

Yes they are unenforceable, but some universities withhold your degree if it unpaid, claiming it as a 'debt'.

Don't pay, but if you uni become arsey over the degree, best advice would be to pay and then take the university to small claims court after they have given over your qualification.

Where students and staff are concerned, they are rarely 'completely' unenforceable. As has been said, students risk having their degrees withheld and staff may face disciplinary action.

I have successfully obtained a full refund for a clamping incident, but the university did not admit that they were wrong, just that they had 'let me off' because it was near Christmas!

It doesn't seem right that they can hold your degree at ransom until you've paid up.

This is standard university practice with all debts (tuition fees, accommodation debts, library fines etc etc).
