if they're around 30k you will get a full student loan, but will be responsible for most of the fees. It's better than nothing, although yes you need to get their details - but the LEA can formally ask for these. You won't need to get in touch with them.
I find it ridiculous that they rely on parents income at all.. as I don't expect my parents to support me.0 -
Get the LEA to contact your parents for details, if they struggle then that can only add to your case, and if they dont at least you get something. It's not the right thing, but it's all you have at the moment.Debt £5600 all 0%0

Remember there has to be rules and the rules have to be balanced in order to protect the system from abuse, as well as help out the genuine people. If they allowed people in circumstances like yours to be Independent without a fight, then all the people whose parents have a household income over £30k a year would start saying they're estranged. For some rich parents it'd be cheaper to pay for a rental flat for 12 mponths to make it look like their kids dont live with them than it'd be to pay 3 years of tuition fee's and support.
Obviously this system damages a mionority of genuine people, but its just really unfortunate. Hope you get sorted though, but like I said despite having a 2 year old child and living 70 miles away from my mum they still refused my appeal for Independent status at an appeal panel so dont get your hopes up!0
