strange call?

I hope this is the right place to post this.
I received an 'international' call this morning, the gentleman ( with an Indian/Pakistani accent*) called me by name and proceeded to tell me that he knew that I had a problem with my Windows operating system and for me to turn on my pc and he would fix the problem for me.
I haven't reported a problem, haven't even noticed 1, so being cynical, immediately thought it was some type of scam and I wasn't very polite (no swearing) in what I said and then hung up :o.
Has anyone else had this type of call?

* Not being rude, just giving information.

Yep, there's a thread about this nearly every other day on this board, maybe an idea to make a sticky about these scam calls then at least potential posters can see it.

Thanks for the heads up though.

Thanks for the reply, I don't usually frequent this board and didn't check other posts :o.
My guilty conscience was kicking in about being so nasty to the caller and I am relieved to know that these calls are definately scams.

Good idea re: the sticky, it would be very helpful.

Had one of these calls the other day. I let him waffle on and then told him that it was strange he could see a fault on my Windows system as I use a Mac!

Oh don't feel guilty for being nasty to the caller, I bet you pound to a penny they won't feel guilty fleecing you of your well earned cash!

Have a look at this site for info and videos of the scam........
