Toshiba tv not working

Options
Hi,
I hope this is in the right section.

I hadn't turned the tv in the living room on for a few weeks and today when I did, it has no sound or picture, all it has is a singular white line about 1/4 way down going across the screen and two tiny white dots about 1/4 way up the screen at about 3 inches in from each side.

The tv is about 6 years old.

If anyone knows what the problem is, is it worth getting it fixed or would it work out cheaper to buy a new one?

Thank you in anticipation of any answers or pointing in the right direction.

sounds like screen has gone but it could possibly be the tuner inside maybe if you have a freeview box lying about might be worth trying that or maybe you have a dvd player that you could hook up and try that if either doesnt work then i would say more likely to bin it. but some tv repair men will come out and look at it for free but i'm reckon if neither of above work then too be honest sounds like it really had it and would suggest buying a new one.
also if you do get a new one look around find model number you want then use

to get cheapest price and then have a look at john lewis as they price match mainly i believe a store near to them within so many miles but the main reason is they give a free 5 yr guarntee on all tellys. so may get really cheap on price match and the guarntee.
  • Thank you very much for that Basil. It is hooked up to a freeview box already. The links are great.

The technical term is frame collapse and a new line output transformer should fix it. Look for quotes of around £100, depending on where you live.
