asbetos roof

hiya MSE forum users, im looking for some advise regarding asbetos roof...
after the strong winds we had in the north east last week, i noticed one of my roof tiles lying on the ground to the front of my house.
the only problem been is that the roof tiles are the original one put on when it was built in the 1930's.
Ive examined the loose one and its rotten and when u run your finger across the tile it crumbles like pastry.
Im considering getting a roofer to come and have a look the roof and its quality, but do they need to be specialists in asbetos to be able to do anything.
Im hoping i need the whole roof replacing as id try and claim on my home insurance.
I know ive got other loose tiles up there and i know there is a leak somewhere, but we have never able to to locate it.
Can anyone please advise me on the best route to take from here.

Many Thanks

laura

firstly your insurance will not cover wear and tear so unless the whole roof gets blown off I doubt they would be interested.

If the tiles are in reasonable condition then you will probably find that most roofers would deal with taking them off. If they are in bad condition like the one you describe then you may need a specialist which could be expensive. Best thing to do is get some roofers in for an opinion and quote.
  • yeah, i did wonder this, but the tiles were blown of in the strong winds so wasnt sure whether this would swing it.
we havent lost anymore that i know of, but i am planning of getting my OH up a set of very high ladders (once ive sorted him out some very good life insurance!!!) to access the roof and the condition of the tiles (which you cannot see from the ground as they are all covered in 80 odd years of moss)
    Thanks for you reply
