Where to Stay in Paris?

DH are planning a trip to Paris in early January, and I have been looking at hotels online and am wondering if you guys had recommendations on the area that we should be looking at staying?
We would like to do lots of sightseeing (DH has never been and I went with school many moons ago and can't remember much!) so would like to be pretty central, or near a Metro. I will be nearly 30 weeks pregnant by then so don't fancy too much walking!!
Any ideas much appreciated

Don't stay outside the peripherique, there are hundreds of relatively cheap hotels in the centre.
If thinking of travelling by Eurostar, try bundling a hotel with the train.
Many thanks. But what area is the Peripherique? I have looked on the Eurostar site at their packages but there are so many hotels so I'm trying to narrow down to central areas, but still MSE!0 -
It's the ring road around central Paris - see http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fichier:Boulevard_p%C3%A9riph%C3%A9rique_de_Paris.pngSammy_Girl wrote: ».....what area is the Peripherique?0 -
We recently stayed at the Hotel du Cadran based on the reviews on Tripadvisor. It's modern and comfortable although the rooms are small - but I gather that's the norm for Paris. It's in the 7th Arrondisement so you can walk to the Eiffel Tower and there is a Metro station within 5 mins walk but the location itself is quiet. There's a number of restaurants within 5-10mins walking distance too.0

i liked the 6th arrondisement, St Germain. there's a Holiday Inn and a Best Western, a metro and handy buses.
this link is still working for 2 nights for the price of 1 at Holiday Inns http://www.ichotelsgroup.com/h/d/6c/925/en/c/1/content/dec/teaser/6c/1/en/lp/emea/twofor.html?rateCode=IDEX10
