Help with finding private rented property...

  • I am having the same problem, but not because I went bankrupt. I have a disability and am on IB & DLA, so I get housing benefit. That's where the problem lies! An awful lot of private landlords will not accept anyone on HB!!

I use Rightmove on line and put in the search area etc. and then I get an email as soon as new ones go on. I also use the other's that have been mentioned.

I am in the same predicament, I need to move to somewhere cheaper. I have never defaulted in paying my rent, but it is getting harder and harder each month finding the money.

I do hope you find somewhere soon. Take care.

I don't understand why nearly all landlords don't accept pets. If any damage it caused by them then isn't that what the desposit is there to cover. It seems mad is this day and age when every other person has a pet!
We have an older cat and I won't part with her, we sadly had to have her sister put to sleep a month ago and we're sure it's affected her. In my experience dogs can do way more damage than cats!
    thanks

At the moment mr lbm is on jsa and the shortfall of hb is crippling us  hoping he gets the job he's waiting to hear about this week

Thought : It might be worth volunteering to get your hb paid directly to prospective landlord if its possible - might reassure some to take that chance

Thanks everyone for you replies , it helps to know its not impossible to find decent place & landlord

  • Hi ibm,

really sorry about your cat i had a bad experience losing mine she got knocked over by car .

totaly agree ,dont see why lanlords have a problem with animals 9/10 they are using these places as a profit making business not a long term family home .
  • Thanks Out of cash

Keep everything crossed for us - we've been given notice so have to find something soon
  • Just an update for additional references
also using Zoopla, Rightmove email alerts
found that local newspaper site connects to Property Today which has many more local agents & private landlords.

We've seen something we're trying to get so keep your fingers crossed for us!

  • Good luck lbm!
  • Update:
We've found that local agents have been much more sympathetic than the big national franchise agents, and I guess being a city they've more 'experience' :rotfl:
We found a place with a local agent via Gumtree and are now sorting & packing - hoping to move out at the end of the year.
So thanks to everyone for the support to keep me going.
