Bought a Faulty Laptop

I bought a laptop from ebay from a private seller who has stated in the auction that it works fine but offers no refunds.

The laptop arrived and I plugged it and and started it up to check it worked and that the spec was as advertised.
It started up fine first time but after about half an hour crashed and kept crashing before it botted up windows again.

I tried running the laptop recovery etc but couldn't get it to work. I tried it later on at home, started it up and tried shutting down the antivirus and anything else that was running but it crashed again after 20 mins and had the same problem that it would crash before it had loaded windows.

I emailed the seller but have had no reply as yet, I'll leave it until after the weekend but I dont think I'll get any response.

I paid via paypal so is the best thing to raise a dispute for an item not as described and escalate it straight away or give him another chance to reply. I dont really want to drag it out as I need to order another laptop.

If they don't respond or respond badly then you can do a Paypal or eBay dispute but you will have to return it tracked at your own expense. It will take a while but you will definitely get your money back.

  • I would most definatly raise a dispute
be who you are and say what you feel.

    Yep raise a SNAD.

Unless you got it for a v.good price, in which case it sounds like it's overheating. Try to blow/suck dust from the fan vents that cool the chippery.
  • I've raised the dispute in ebay, do I also need to raise the dispute with paypal or will ebay automatically do this?

No, don't do it through both - using one should be enough.

Though IMO you should have waited until the seller got back to you.
