Kitchen design advice

Hello

We are having a new kitchen and are going for cream high gloss cupbards with Astro black quartz worktops (the one with the sparkly silver bits in). I am considering having a red glass splashback behind the cooker. The window faces north so it isn't a light room which is why we have gone for gloss and sparkle to reflect the light.

My query is should I also go for a black floor? We are considering the sparkly granite or quartz tiles. Would it look too much? Would it look too dark? Should I just stick to plain black porcelain - it would be cheaper.

I have read that shiny black shows marks easy but I am not concerned with that as there is only two of us and I am hoping the sparkle may hide it.

Has anyone had any floor tiles imported from China?

I have another thread open on putting underfloor heating in as well.

Many thanks in advance

Poppy

  • These tiles show up scruffs i've got red ones on my kitchen floor, speak to your tile shop or tiler to see the maintenance needs of these tiles.

can you borrow a tile from the shop and put it against the units to see if you think its too much.

the other thing to consider is if you buy these expensive tiles, what if theirs a problem with the underfloor heating and they need to be took up.

forgot to say on your other post, turn the heat on gradually.
one company recommends waiting 5 days before turning the heating on.
  • As long as you are happy to polish the floor after mopping it then i can see no problem. I have a black tile floor and it does show up dirt very easily.
Politicians and diapers have one thing in common. They should both be changed regularly, and for the same reason.

We have a north facing kitchen and I was considering the colour scheme you have but I realised that it isn't the cupboard doors that make a room dark but the worktops and floor that reflect the light. Personally, I think a black worktop and black floor might make the room very dark as it's north facing.

I turned the colour scheme around and had black gloss units and a white top and very pale grey floor. The light reflects off the pale worktop and looks OK.

There's a few pictures of it on here somewhere..

  • It isn't as easy as I thought it would be to improve the kitchen.

I can't try a sample yet as the kitchen doesn't come in until January. I am concerned with the black floor but we were going to have lighting in the plinths and hoped that would help and also led lighting under the wall cupboards.

We are going to look at some more tiles companies nearby in Burton tomorrow so maybe we will make a decision this weekend.

thanks for you great answers so far
